What Are The Chakras And Their Meanings?

What are the Chakras and their meanings? Over the years since my daughter got sick with leukemia and went into remission, her actual recovery has been a long, hard road. I wandered down many roads to try to find help for her. In that time, I became a big fan of different healing modalities and methods – Essential oils, living a cleaner life, energy healing, etc. I became a Chakra Sutra practitioner because I really believe that if we can heal our emotional pain on an energetic level, our lives can become more balanced and fulfilling. In recent years, the concept of chakras has gained significant popularity in the realm of holistic wellness and spiritual practices. The notion comes from ancient Eastern traditions where chakras are believed to be centers of energy within the human body that correspond to different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Understanding these energy centers and their influence on our lives can provide valuable insights into achieving balance and harmony. In this article, we will look at what chakras are and delve into how they can impact our lives when they are out of balance.

What are Chakras?

Chakras is an ancient Sanskrit term meaning “wheels” or “disks,” and refer to the seven major energy centers located along the central axis of the body, known as the spine. Each chakra is associated with specific organs, glands, colors, sounds, and qualities. They are believed to serve as gateways through which vital life force energy, often referred to as prana or chi, flows. There are 7 major chakras within the body and some people believe there are more outside the body, such as one that earths us to the ground that sits underneath us, and one or two more that resides a little above our head and also another much higher connecting us to a greater consciousness. For the purposes of this article we will stick to the 7 more well known ones.

The Seven Chakras

Below is a brief outline of each chakra, their name, where they are located within the body and a basic description of what each chakra is connected to. There is a lot more involved but this is a great basis for understanding.

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): found at the base of the spine and represents our sense of stability, grounding, and connection to the physical world.
  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): is positioned in the lower abdomen and governs our creativity, sexuality, and emotional well-being.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): is situated in the upper abdomen and is associated with our personal power, self-confidence, and motivation.
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): is located at the center of the chest and represents love, compassion, and emotional balance.
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): is positioned in the throat and relates to communication, self-expression, and authenticity.
  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): is situated in the middle of the forehead and associated with intuition, perception, and inner wisdom.
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): is located at the top of the head and represents spiritual connection, enlightenment, and higher consciousness.

The Impact of Imbalanced Chakras

The flow of energy within a chakra can become blocked or disrupted, which can result in an imbalance and can manifest in various ways, affecting our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The below are just a few key examples.

Physical Impact:

Imbalances in chakras can manifest in a physical nature

  • Root Chakra : May lead to issues with the lower body, such as lower back pain, digestive problems, or immune system imbalances.
  • Sacral Chakra: Can manifest as reproductive system disorders, sexual dysfunction, or lower abdominal pain.
  • Solar Plexus: May cause digestive disorders, low energy, or chronic fatigue.
  • Heart Chakra: Can lead to heart-related problems, high blood pressure, or immune system disorders.
  • Throat Chakra: May result in throat or thyroid issues, speech difficulties, or neck and shoulder pain.
  • Third Eye Chakra: Can manifest as headaches, vision problems, or difficulty concentrating.
  • Crown Chakra: May cause a disconnection from spirituality, lack of purpose, or a feeling of being ungrounded.

Emotional Impact:

Imbalances in chakras can also affect our emotional well-being and behavior.

  • Root Chakra: May lead to feelings of insecurity, fear, or a lack of trust in oneself or others.
  • Sacral Chakra: Can result in emotional instability, guilt, or a lack of creativity.
  • Solar Plexus Chakra: May manifest as low self-esteem, anger, or control issues.
  • Heart Chakra: Can lead to difficulties in giving or receiving love, feelings of bitterness, or an inability to forgive.
  • Throat Chakra: May result in difficulties expressing oneself, fear of speaking up, or excessive talking.
  • Third Eye Chakra: Can manifest as a lack of clarity, difficulty making decisions, or an overactive imagination.
  • Crown Chakra: May cause a disconnection from higher consciousness, spiritual skepticism, or a sense of isolation.

Example of How an Imbalance Might Create an Illness

How might imbalance in a Chakra relate to an illness such as Childhood Leukemia? For those of you who have come here from doing a basic search on what are the chakras and their meanings, you may not be aware that my daughter had Leukemia as a child. I never really knew what caused her Leukemia, being that little was known as to the causes. It could have been a combination of things physically, such as being exposed to chemicals in our everyday lives, may be there were EMFs around us, maybe it was the use of latex dummies (pacifiers), who knows? I got rid of a lot of that stuff in our lives once I learned that environmental causes may result in leukemia.

But then, looking from a potential cause on an emotional level that could have caused an imbalance, when she was nearly 3 I had separated from her father 10 months prior to her developing Leukemia and so there is always the possibility of this being part of it too. Leukemia is kind of a cancer of the blood, blood is related to the heart chakra, and because her heart may have been broken by the separation, it’s quite possible that these emotions manifested in an imbalance of her heart chakra and resulted in a blood cancer in the form of Leukemia. I’m not trying to blame myself, but I also dare not say that this wasn’t part of the cause.

Some theories in the alternative field of healing modalities may indicate that in terms of a soul journey, that a child who has Leukemia, has chosen that path for themselves when they enter their physical form. I’m not sure about this because I do find it hard to believe that anyone would choose this for themselves, but I won’t discard it either. For me, the chakra imbalance theory certainly does make sense. It leads me to wish I had known about this stuff years ago and perhaps found a way to balance my daughter’s chakras back then when the emotional incident first occurred.
